Connecting with the World, One Link at a Time. Today’s major challenges rarely belong to one nation alone. Public health, disasters, climate change, technology, global supply chains, sport, and the economy all cross borders, reminding us that choices made in one place can impact lives elsewhere.For 50 years, Taiwan Panorama has documented the many ways Taiwan has participated in and connected with the world.“Goodwill in Action” highlights Taiwan’s contributions through medical assistance, humanitarian relief, agricultural cooperation, education, and grassroots initiatives, building lasting connections through expertise and support. “Team Taiwan” follows athletes representing Taiwan on the world stage, reflecting resilience, teamwork, and a determination to give their best for Taiwan. “Island of Innovation” traces the development of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry, where decades of industrial planning, research, manufacturing expertise, and global collaboration have made the island a key part of the global technology supply chain.The distance between Taiwan and the world is defined by more than geography. Through every exchange, partnership, and shared challenge, Taiwan continues to find its place in an interconnected world—reaching out, contributing, and moving forward together.

Chi Cheng, Taiwan’s first woman Olympic medalist, carried the torch toward the cauldron with a confident stride. Together with C. K. Yang, Taiwan’s first Olympic medalist, she passed the torch to young athlete Wang Yi-cheng, who lit the cauldron—a symbolic handover to a new generation of athletes.

Beginning at a young age, players gain international tournament experience and build the skills needed to one day represent Taiwan on the world stage. The 2009 Little League Baseball Asia-Pacific Regional Tournament offers a glimpse into this long-term development process.

Taiwan has spent 30 years pursuing its space ambitions, progressing from tentative first steps to the ability to build its own satellites. Such progress did not happen overnight. Despite numerous political and diplomatic challenges, Taiwan moved forward step by step, ultimately achieving the remarkable feat of “Formosa taking flight into space.”

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), a homegrown firm, represents the brightest chapter in the legend of Taiwan’s high-tech industry. The engineer is holding a silicon wafer. The complex circuit design shown behind him is condensed onto a tiny integrated circuit—an indispensable component in electronic and information products.

At the World Games, held every four years, Taiwan’s women’s tug-of-war team has won gold at six consecutive editions since the 2005 Games in Duisburg. Beginning with the 2013 Games in Cali, a combined squad of athletes from Jingmei Girls High School and universities has represented Taiwan, winning four titles in a row—no accident. Training day and night, the athletes have overcome their smaller stature through technique and perseverance, bringing their team honor time and again.

In early 2020, as COVID-19 spread worldwide, Taiwan assembled a “national mask team” to support countries hit hard by the pandemic. That year, Taiwan donated 54 million masks to more than 80 countries, once again showing the world that “Taiwan can help, and Taiwan is helping.”

Water and agriculture are closely linked. The Republic of China Agricultural Mission in Malawi built a comprehensive irrigation system that turned barren land into fertile fields. The irrigated zone attracted residents and developed into a new community.
