To assist young people in furthering their careers is one of the major tasks of National Youth Commission. Its goal is to stimulate their creative spirits and enable them to develop their own careers in conjunction with national construction needs. It aims further to promote economic development, create more wealth and more employment opportunities for youths, and train skilled and management personnel. As of March, 1976, the government had provided NT$103,854,000 in loans to 943 persons for career development. Annual production from these careers and enterprises reached more than NT$ l,500,000,000. They include 28 fields, such as the petrochemical industry, the manufacturing of machinery, electric machinery and transportation equipment.
The National Youth Commission established the "Yu Shih Industrial Zone" at Taoyuan for youth career development. The zone covers 52 hectares (130 acres), providing factory sites and plant facilities for applicants who have received loans. A vocational training center, community development and certain service facilities for the zone are planned. At present, 66 plants are in production and 28 others are being built in the zone. The government also has set up dairy farms at Hsinchu and Miaoli for use by agricultural school graduates in developing the livestock industry. The 20-hectare (50-acre) dairy farm at Hsinchu feeds cattle and produces milk. The 50-hectare (125-acre) farm at Miaoli is building public facilities and growing grass for feed. The youths also organize teams to work at mechanical farming services. Through the China Youth Career Development Association, they cooperate and help one another to create bright futures.
