In 2013, the Travel & Living Channel invited several famous television hosts to put on a “TLC Picnic Day” that attracted over 10,000 people to come out and picnic together. The next year, attendees broke Taiwan records by surpassing the 60,000 mark. The public discovered that some picnickers dress up and create beautiful presentations of their dishes with exquisite equipment. These feasts for the eyes quickly became the quarry of photographers.
Beautiful scenes at meticulously prepared “themed picnics” took people’s breath away. They began to be featured prominently on Facebook and triggered a picnicking craze throughout Taiwan.
Today, picnic gurus are publishing books to share their knowledge, and the picnicking gear market is growing by leaps and bounds. It’s gotten to the point where outdoor music events are called “picnic concerts.” The irresistible charms of picnicking have become intertwined with the very fabric of life in Taiwan.
So call some friends together, bring your children and pets, and pick up your picnic basket. Enjoy the fresh air and sunlight, the grass, the light breeze and an exquisite outdoor feast!
