As beautiful babies begin to leave the nest, how to make them presentable is something over which parents must spend a little time and effort. Specialists have a few suggestions:
1. Don't let children dress too elegantly to go to school. Because children will be afraid to get the clothes dirty, they will avoid activities, which means losing learning opportunities. And kids' habits of copying each other could create problems for other parents.
2. Dress can't be too shabby, or kids will be ostracized by classmates. Parents must look after their children's feelings, and keep the kids comparable to their peers. But this doesn't mean high-priced items; simple styles and pretty colors are the basic principles.
3. Within limits, let the children decide. Children don't understand prices. If parents set an upper limit on prices or types of clothes before going shopping, children won't have unlimited demands.
4. When kids' demands are excessive, parents should openly say, "Now is not the time." Letting the kids know the parents' situation, and reaching mutual understanding, is easier for children to accept than a flat refusal.
5. Using their most loved clothing, teach the children good habits for putting away and taking care of their own things.
6. When buying fashionable children's clothes, one can't overlook comfort. Too many seams, too tight pants, or materials that are too rough can irritate children's skin. Sweat-absorbent cotton and soft woolen material are more suitable.
7. Parents should buy clothing that carries the innocence and liveliness of childhood, and avoid styles that are too old for the kids.
