The story of the old photographer and the young photographer
Took place in Yangmei Town in Taiwan Province in the Republic of China
A little place like this
Compared with the boundless universe
Really seems so tiny
The old photographer recounted tirelessly
How after his parents, his brother and his sister passed away
One evening in the gathering dusk
He took a chicken cooked in sesame oil Rode his bicycle
Went to clean his loved ones' bones
Nearly there his tire burst
His grief welled up from inside And he couldn't hold back the tears
Reading thus far Somehow It seemed
His tears Had become So huge So huge
Little Yangmei Was too small to hold them
Taiwan too was too small to hold them
Not even China
Not even the whole world could hold them
If God in Heaven picks up his tears
Surely His grief will well up from inside
A young photographer born and bred in Yangmei
Finally found the old photographer
Dug out the story of Wu Chin-miao and Wu Chin-jung
A story of small characters In a small town
But which fills the reader's heart
With waves of passion
The Wu brothers Were born here, grew up here, grew old here
No haughty wealth No proud academic record
They faithfully did their duty to the last Quietly working on
Recording half a century of Yangmei's history
History Belongs to the founders of nations
Belongs to martyrs Who lay down their lives in blood
But why shouldn't it also belong To small town folk
Who toil all their days?
The old photographer passed Yangmei's history
Into the hands of the young photographer Liang Kuo-lung
Thus there was continuity Thus there was inheritance
Thus the old photographer and the young photographer
Made Yangmei's simple countenance
Appear fresh before our eyes
Thank you, old and young photographers
For you made
Little Yangmei Become So huge So huge
And we people of the Earth, who live on one little planet of the great universe
Have also become So huge So huge
We really should be proud
To have something which
Many other planets around the universe do not have
A richly beautiful world
A world of feelings
