Kenting Park is located at the southern tip of Taiwan, to the south of Hengchun, Pingtung County, in the center of Oluanpi Peninsula. It is 120 kilometers south of Kaohsiung and 9 kilometers north of Oluanpi. It can be reached by highway bus. Located between mountain and ocean, Kenting Park has beautiful scenery and agreeable weather. During the past 10 years, the Forestry Bureau has carried out a program to open forest playgrounds in coordination with Taiwan's booming tourism. The Kenting playground is composed of three areas: beach, hotel and park. The beach has a sea bathing area, motels and beach hotel. The hotel area includes comfortable Kenting House. The park area offers many natural scenic spots. The total area covers 180 hectares (450 acres). The playground, including the park and the beach, is not far from the hotel area. It's far enough, however, so that the noise of the tourists doesn't disturb the quiet atmosphere around the hotel. Many consider that Kenting Park is indeed an ideal place to go for holidays.
Scenic spots are almost everywhere in Kenting Park. Near the entrance is the 'Precious Cave of Stalactites' where nature displays the shining beauty of stalactites and stalagmites. Outside of the cave it is a tropical forest, and through the forest, a pavilion stands. As the name 'Sea Viewing Pavilion' indicates, it offers a sweeping view of the ocean, where sea gulls fly. Such scenery, many visitors feel, clears one's sorrows and broadens his mind. From here, a path leads the tourists to the 'Fairy Cave,' then the 'First Gorge.' The gorge was formed when coral reefs then beneath the sea were raised, and broken. It is so narrow and short that only one person can sidle through at a time. Beyond the gorge is 'One-Line-Sky' where rocks are as steep as if cut by a sword. Standing between the steep cliffs, one can only see a narrow line of sky, hear his own voice echoing as he talks or laughs.
When you walk out from the 'One-Line-Sky,' you will see the 'Maze Forest,' where narrow winding paths might get you lost. The strange shapes of rocks and stones add a touch of fantasy. Other unique scenery in Kenting Park includes 'Weeping Banyan Valley,' 'Monkey Rock,' 'Sun Viewing Hill' and 'Silver Dragon Cave.' The 'Divine Tree' is famous because, though it is hollow from action by ants and other insects, it still flourishes. The botanical garden at Kenting is one of the famous tropical plant stations. It covers an area of 50 or more hectares. It has more than 1000 species of tropical plants, which add to striking sights of the park. Most are identified by markers with both their Chinese and Latin names. Kenting Park is a national park, quiet and beautiful, and preserving a primitive landscape for those wanting to 'get away.'
