Thirty-two youths of the Republic of China were organized into two goodwill missions led by Chien-chung Yi and Nathan Yu-jen Lai to visit college campuses in the United States in March 1977. This is third visit of the Chinese youth groups to the U. S. Their purposes are to promote friendship and mutual under standing among the Sino-American youths and students by means of seminars, exhibits and performances. The members of these student goodwill missions were selected from colleges and universities in the Republic of China.
After organization, the members of the Missions received long periods of training and rehearsals. All the performances include characteristics of the Chinese cultural and traditional arts, such as Chinese music, folk songs and dances, Chinese kung fu, Chinese calligraphy and painting demonstrations, and other folk arts. The presentations in the United States will be sponsored by the Chinese scholars and students in the American campuses. During the shows, the audiences will receive souvenirs from the missions. The gifts and group flags will be presented to the authorities of the colleges and universities at which the performances are held as the symbols of the Chinese friendship. During the last two visits to the United States, our Chinese youth goodwill missions received the warmest of welcomes from their audiences. The seminars have achieved good results from exchanging views with American youths. These help our American friends toward further understanding of our country. Last year's goodwill mission to the United States was invited to attend the Fifth International Folk Dance Festival in Miami, Florida, where it won big applause from thousands in the audiences.
