In order to improve control over NT dollar movement into and out of the country and to reduce difficulties for customs inspection, partial draft revisions to Ministry of Finance regulations governing limits on bullion, foreign currency and NT dollar currency being sent or brought out of or into the country have recently been announced by the Executive Yuan. The main revisions are as follows --
--The amount of NT dollars that travellers may carry out of or into Taiwan has been raised from the previous NT$8,000 to NT$40,000 per person; the amount of NT dollars that airline or shipping personnel may carry out of or into Taiwan has been raised from the previous NT$4,000 to NT$20,000 per person per trip.
--Amounts of NT dollars carried in excess or sent contrary to regulations will be returned.
--In order to improve control of NT dollar currency movement out of and into Taiwan, NT dollar currency may not be sent out of or into the country by post, unless such mailing is approved by the Ministry of Finance.&
--In accordance with the lifting of business tax and import duty on gold bars and nuggets, the previous regulation referring to "lawful imposition of tax" is annulled.
The Effectiveness of Re-exit Permits for Overseas Chinese Extended by the Ministry of the Interior to Six Months
The Bureau of Exit and Entry in the Ministry of the Interior has clarified the regulations regarding Length of Stay on Taiwan Under Re-exit Permits for Overseas Chinese Issued by Overseas R.O.C. Agencies in three areas:
1. The length of stay on Taiwan of overseas Chinese using re-exit permits issued by overseas R.O.C. agencies has been extended to six months, excepting cases involving questions of military service, where the limit is the day before four months have expired from the date of entry.
2. Excepting persons having their status changed to long-term residency on Taiwan, all others must exit the country as soon as the time limit is up, without extension.
3. Re-exit permits for overseas Chinese will not be issued to persons who have established household residency on Taiwan and have obtained a multiple-entry exit visa to exit the country as an ordinary citizen.
