As the Lunar New Year, the most important Chinese holiday, approaches, the prospect of spending some downtime after months of hard work warms the heart. To make the most of your winter vacation, as well as celebrating and spending happy moments with your family, remember to give yourself ample time to rest. Mind and body need to recuperate before taking on the challenges of the year to come.
In keeping with the festive atmosphere this month, Taiwan Panorama is providing readers with a rich New Year’s feast. We start by sharing some tips about how to choose and prepare healthy New Year’s dishes. After all, people these days care just as much about the healthiness of their food as they do about its taste. We also take a look at how ethnic Chinese who live in different places around the world celebrate New Year’s differently and enjoy a variety of New Year’s atmospheres.
The Taipei International Book Exhibition is a special treat for booklovers that is held every year around Chinese New Year’s. TIBE’s “guest of honor” this year is New Zealand. Noted Kiwi writers, including Eleanor Catton, the youngest ever recipient of the Man Booker Prize, and Witi Ihimaera, author of The Whale Rider, will be in attendance. Readers who visit the exhibition should be sure to check out the Taiwan Panorama stall at Booth A232 (General Publisher Zone) in Hall 1 of the Taipei World Trade Center.
This year also marks the fourth anniversary of visa-free travel for ROC citizens to the Schengen countries of the European Union. An important diplomatic achievement, visa-free travel represents an affirmation of the confidence that European nations have in Taiwan and its economy, society and culture. Exchange between Taiwan and Europe, moreover, is only growing. Taiwan and Europe are anticipating new rounds of negotiations that will bring agreements on trade and economics.
Because Taiwan Panorama has moved offices, the magazine has come out late these last two months. For that delay we would like to apologize to our readers. We also promise that the entire staff will work ever harder to provide readers with rich content and outstanding service in the months and years to come.

Let us take this opportunity to wish our readers the best of years. May yours be full of peace and joy!
