The eclosion process of the byasa febanus: Prior to eclosion, the pupa gradually becomes clear, and you can perceive the butterfly inside. During eclosion, the butterfuly begins to wiggle and break through the pupa. Upon its breaking the pupa, the butterfly's wings are folded in. The butterfly then emits body fluid which flows down the structure of the wings. The butterfly then spreads its wings to shake off the fluid. Aftera short rest, it is ready to fly.
The beauty of many larvae exceeds that of the butterflies themselves. Among the larvae already discovered in Taiwan almost none do any harm to human skin. Seeing these adorable little critters, are you still afraid of caterpillars?
The larvae of a few species contain poisons, which come from the poisonous plants they eat and which prove highly unappetizing to natural enemies like birds and spiders. When the graphium agamemnon is bothered, it emits a powerful odorous substance kept in its chest.

What do butterflies eat? Aside from nectar and dew, some of these guys don't mind dining on manure, urine, and corpses. Yum, yum.
