Thanks in part to a bump from the 2013 World Baseball Classic, ticket sales for the Chinese Professional Baseball League have been strong, and attendance is at a new high. The Taiwanese passion for baseball has been reignited!
The excitement of the competition has been one factor, but sideline activities have also been a thrill. Last year’s CPBL champs, the Lamigo Monkeys, put on the best show when they’re the home team. They not only invite celebrities to throw out the first ball, they also have “human statues”—perhaps on your next trip you will be greeted by a Roman centurion! Fans just can’t wait to get to the park and see what they will come up with next.
The newest team in the league, the EDA Rhinos, grabbed the spotlight and the pennant for the first half of the season by bringing in former US major league superstar Manny Ramirez. The EDA Rhino Girls and the team mascots add to the excitement in the air and have given fans a lot to talk about.
With youthful cheerleading squads leading the way, we can expect the second half of the season to be even more action-packed!
