While visiting two ASEAN member states, developed Thailand and developing Vietnam, we took time out from our itineraries to stroll through the streets, which frequently resulted in a bit of deja vu and exposed us to scenes that brought smiles to our faces.
While cityscapes have been rapidly transformed by the rush to catch up with the developed world,
the common folk have retained some parts of their traditional lives. Will such scenes disappear in years to come,
or will a new balance be found in the battle between modernity and tradition?
