In 1975, the company traveled abroad for the first time, and in 1977 they were featured in America’s Time Magazine in a series of photos of a Cloud Gate rehearsal. The article praised the company as both talented and charming.
Through 1978, Sinorama reported on five significant performances by Cloud Gate, performances that identified much more strongly with the lives of people in Taiwan than had been the case in the past.
Our articles indicate that there was some critical comment on the new performances. The fact that they were not to everybody’s taste may have created some stress for the dancers, but it also showed the high regard and expectations of their public, who were always eager for better and more creative performances.
As a government publication, Taiwan Panorama has always striven to maintain objectivity.
