Dear Editor,
We have been subscribing to Sinorama ever since your first issue. Not only do my husband and I enjoy reading it, many of our friends have joined your readership too. Sinorama is objective in content, and conveys a strong sense of the lives and customs of ordinary people. It helps us remember where we come from, even though we have been living overseas for more than 20 years.
In the October overseas edition of Sinorama there was an article about the charitable activities of Mr. Wen Jung-kun of Miaoli County. I was very moved by his story, and at the time I sent a check for $200 to the writer, asking her to pass it on to Mr. Wen. So far I haven't received any reply, but this time I am sending another check for $400--please pass it on to Mr. Wen and ask him to use it to buy some things for those needy families. With the Chinese New Year approaching, every family needs food. Actually, our two sons have saved this money out of their toy money. They want to use it to help people in need, so we will all be very grateful if you can assist by sending it to Mr. Wen. If Mr. Wen doesn't mind, could you give me his address so I can contact him directly?
Editor's note: Our article "Ah Kun's List" prompted a big response. We have received the donations sent from the USA by Li Tsu-lien, Li Yu-fang and Sun Chih-fang, and have already passed them on to "Uncle Ah Kun." Ah Kun's work to help the poor has always been done of his own accord, and he did not have a bank account for donations. But after our article appeared he received many enquiries from readers, and has recently opened a donation account in Toufen. The details are: account no. 019076526838-2 at the Cooperative Bank of Taiwan, Toufen branch, account name Wen Jung-kun. Or money can be sent to the charity United Way at ROC Post Office account no. 1658388-2, with instructions to pay it to Mr. Wen Jung-kun at No. 37-2, Tungchiang Neighborhood 3, Nanchiang Village, Nanchuang Rural Township, Miaoli County, Taiwan.
Some readers have also asked about Mu Kuo-min and his family. His wife has given birth to a lovely, healthy daughter. Mu and his wife are overjoyed. They still live by scavenging garbage, but the application for a disabled person's allowance which Ah Kun helped them prepare has been accepted, and this should improve the family's finances somewhat.
