Cost of Contacting the Mainland Down as of January
The Directorate-General of Telecommunications, in order to make the price of mutual contacts across the Strait reasonable, plans to reduce the charges on communicating with the mainland by 13 to 24 percent.
The International Telecommunications Administration points out that we are sixth in foreign contacts with China in terms of the number of minutes spent talking and 13th in number of completed calls. At present, between 7 A.M. and 12 P.M., each six seconds of the first minute cost NT$7.5; after that, NT$5.7. Between midnight and 7 A.M., the identical time's charges are NT$5.5 and NT$4.2, respectively.
According to the statement issued, the cost of talking to someone on the mainland is coming down, beginning in January. In general, six seconds in the first minute will be NT$6.5 and NT$4.5 beyond that. Whenever reduced rates are in effect, the charge will stay at NT$5.5 per each six seconds in the first minute and drop to NT$3.2 for each six seconds in each succeeding minute.
