"Good morning!" is always a particularly heartening greeting, perhaps because of the time at which it is extended. In the early morning, when the air is fresh, and flora and fauna are coming out of a deep sleep refreshed and ready to begin anew, "Good morning!" expresses boundless hope and exuberance.
Booming Taipei, its buildings and parks forged by industrious residents, is vital and lively in the early morning. Like a huge theatre stage with a backdrop of buildings and streets, lights go on to light up the cars, trees and flowers that serve as props. Taipei's citizens play the early-risers who raise the curtain for the day's prelude.
At year's end, when the weather becomes cool and most people are still wrapped in quilts fast asleep, Taipei's newspaper deliverers, breakfast vendors and street sweepers have already begun their day. Others are up early to go to school, exercise or walk their pets. All make for a colorful scene of bustling activity.
