The wholesale flower emporium shown here, first opened in the winter of 1981, represents one more effort of the Taipei municipal government to brighten the city and to make the lives of the citizens more pleasant. Prior to the opening of this officially licensed emporium, there was no single place in Taipei where one could get a complete variety of flowers available in Taiwan or buy all kinds of garden equipment. Roadside stands where one can purchase flowers still abound in the Taipei area, but now there is one definite place where flower lovers can come and be assured of the widest variety of flowers at reasonable prices. In choosing to make fresh flowers so easily available to city dwellers, the municipal government showed that it knows what it is doing, for few things are dearer to the Chinese sensibility than the beauty of flowers.
This wholesale flower emporium which began business at the end of the winter in 1981 in Taipei is the first to receive official permission to sell flowers.
The emporium provides all sorts of beautiful and multi-colored flowers for the citizens of Taipei City all year round, thus bringing a little bit of nature closer to the noisy, busy city.
Previously, Taipei had many roadside places where one could purchase flowers. But now, there is a definite location where flower lovers can come and be assured of fresh flowers at reasonable prices.
