One in five football boots worldwide
Founded in 1992 and headquartered in Taichung, central Taiwan, Sports Gear has long specialized in professional football boots. The company has facilities in Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Portugal, and its partners include Nike, adidas, Puma, and Decathlon. People in the industry often describe its influence this way: One in every five football boots worldwide comes from Sports Gear.
Football is a high-intensity sport, and football boots are products with high technical barriers to entry. On the pitch, players sprint, stop suddenly, and change direction at speed, while also relying on their boots’ uppers to control and strike the ball. That means boots must be light, supportive, grippy, and durable. In rain or snow, they must also remain stable and weather-resistant.
Sports Gear President Patrick Chen recalls that in the company’s early years, a chance connection with the Italian brand Lotto brought his firm into the football-boot industry. Later partnerships with adidas, Nike, and other brands gradually helped the company build its R&D and manufacturing capabilities.
