Computer Work in Chinese

The Republic of China has advanced far into the era of computerization in processing documents. Many organizations, governmental and civilian alike, have installed computers. The use of computers to deal with materials written in Chinese began in 1975. Experts believe that the use of the machines as tools to handle data in Chinese will be common within five years. Many public organizations and private firms are leading the way. These computers can take care of jobs ranging from mathematical problems and handling of materials to communications. At present, there are three systems of computers used in Republic of China-the Fu Hsi 4674 and two types designed by experts at National Taiwan University (NTU) and Chung Yuan Christian College of Science and Engineering (CYCCSE). The NTU and CYCCSE systems are different in characteristics, and both called breakthroughs in designing. The two universities are now making further studies of keyboards, hoping to lower costs and produce better word style.
