In conjunction with the ROC Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Taiwan Culture in Europe 2025 series of cultural events, and to deepen connections between Taiwan and Europe, an exhibition by Taiwanese Catholic artist Hsieh Sheng-Min titled "Gloria: Taiwanese Artist Hsieh Sheng-Min's Religious and HOPE artworks" is specially curated at the Embassy of the ROC Taiwan to the Holy See.
The exhibition expresses the respect of Taiwanese Catholics for His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, while also serving as a tribute to the Catholic Jubilee Year 2025. The exhibition features work by devout Catholic Professor Hsieh Sheng-Min, who won the first prize four times at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts' woodblock New Year print competition. Professor Hsieh excels at combining Taiwanese and Catholic folk imagery, creating religious artworks that demonstrate innovative depth and fusion.
The exhibition presents approximately 30 prints, encompassing Professor Hsieh's Catholic-themed works from over the years. They represent not only a fusion of religion and art, but also a microcosm of the dialogue between local culture and world religions. We hope this will serve as a bridge for cultural exchange between Taiwan and the Vatican, showing the depth of devotion of Taiwanese Catholics and visual creativity.
The work is divided into three series: 1. Localization of Catholic Art in Taiwan, 2. Inter-Religious Artistic Dialogue, 3. Jubilee Year HOPE (Humanity, Opportunity, Partnership, Encounter) Taiwan.
