Many years ago, it was said that there were nine suns in the sky. The burning heat of the suns parched the earth, causing hardship for the people. Ho I, a prominent archer who was distressed over the situation, decided to shoot down the suns with his arrows. He shot down eight of them, leaving only one shining. So he became king with the full support of the people, and married the beautiful Chang O. But Ho I turned out to be a tyrant, enslaving the people and causing them to live in misery. When Ho I discovered the elixir of life, Chang O was deeply disturbed. If Ho I were to become immortal, the people would always suffer. So she stole the drug and took it herself one night. Chang O soon found herself soaring up to the moon, where she has stayed ever since.
