Green products take the stage
As an example of a green product, Taiwan’s prominent consumer appliance company Tatung wowed the audience by unveiling its microcomputer-controlled TAC-11EA rice cooker at the event. This product features Tatung’s trademark indirect heating technology, as well as seven cooking presets commonly used by consumers.
Hydroponics companies, which have in recent years been mainstays among Taiwan’s green services exports, drew the interest of many potential buyers at the exhibition. Such firms as Shinkong iEcofun Corp., which sells plant pots and aquaponics products; Ying Tang Sustainable Services Co., manufacturer of fully enclosed hydroponic grow boxes; and Loga Solar Applications Co., known for designing and building aquatic plant farms, all showcased new products at their booths. The lush green, light-emitting grow boxes were so delightful that they were snapped up by international buyers.
Green economy: A new source of growth
On March 13, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Economic Affairs hosted a gala cocktail party, welcoming dignitaries from industry, government and academia in different countries.
Accompanied by Vice Foreign Minister Vanessa Shih and Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Bill Cho, President Ma Ying-jeou personally delivered an address at the event.
President Ma remarked that green policies have become a new force in the effort to stimulate global economic growth and to tackle problems such as global warming and climate change. He also said that Taiwan is sparing no efforts in the development of a green economy. For instance, two years ago, traffic lights throughout Taiwan were replaced by LED lights, making Taiwan only the world’s second country to do so. The next step is to convert all street lamps to LED, to achieve even greater energy savings and reductions in carbon emissions.
