The city is, without a doubt, a masterpiece of civilization and of the wisdom of mankind.
Opportunities and dreams here abound. And so people have gathered in it and built for themselves dazzling, speeding cars and glittering walls of glass.
But the expressions of the people who move about in its midst are indistinct and colorless.
Photographers, fascinated by the city's speed and glitter, have tried to express this strange, partly dislocated sensation with their cameras. The air is filled with graininess. Partial blockage and high-speed development also help capture the vision and mood.
While under the penetrating eye of the camera, man seems little more than a mayfly, a floating waterplant, an unconscious ephemera of the city.

Let the future wait a bit!
And let me think. After marriage, career, retirement, grandchildren, what is left?
And let me think. What, after all, is all the fashion for?
I used to think fun
Could be bought in a store.
Having walked past all the windows,
I learn I'm all alone and on my own.
I used to grow green in the sunlight and showers.
Now, just to please some Nature lover's fancy, I pine away here, pale and wan.
