It has been two years since President Chiang Kai-shek passed away, but his great wisdom, magnanimity, courage, spirit and perseverance will remain with us. The mourning came from the depths of the people's hearts in the whole world when President Chiang left this life on April 5, l975. Our compatriots, both at home and abroad, have demonstrated their unconquerable dedication and their determination to carry out the late President's instructions. On the precarious international scene, we have made the instructions bequeathed by the late President our code of conduct and have transformed our grief into power. The Republic of China has become an invincible anti-Communist fortress in the western Pacific Ocean, standing as firmly as a rock.
More than two years has elapsed since the passing of our great leader President Chiang Kai-shek, but our pious respect for him and our vivid memory of him are increasing with each day. As of now, the number of the people who have ever called at Tzuhu to pay homage to our national leader at his resting place is more than 2,090,000. A series of memorial services has been held throughout the island since the April 5 anniversary. Ranking officials of the Central Government, overseas Chinese, members of the diplomatic corps, noted guests visiting the ROC and representatives of local governments have gone to Tzuhu in groups in an unceasing procession. A rally in memory of the late President was held on the second anniversary of his passing. Speaking at the rally, President Yen Chia-kan called on his countrymen to emulate President Chiang's spirit of taking the rise and fall of his country as his own responsibility, without ever thinking of his personal life or death. President Yen also urged the Chinese people to dedicate themselves to realizing the will of the late national leader.
