Hsieh Hsin-tien has worked at the weather station on Yushan's north peak for nearly a decade. Surrounded by magnificent scenery through all the seasons, beneath the great vault of heaven, amid the clouds and mountain flora, he has captured image after image of Yushan's broad vistas and majestic beauty.

To ascend the main peak to pluck stars
Who dares harbor such an audacious dream?
Confronted with the hazy and unfathomable majesty of the mountain,
I can only doff my cap and lift my gaze, not daring to approach or look more closely
— Hsiang Ming, “Homage to Yushan”
p.37
The clouds keep Yushan company, resolute and tender; they also accompany travelers on their weary road up the mountain, helping them to appreciate the magical changes between movement and stillness, walking and rest, existence and nothingness....
—Xiang Yang, “Homeland of the Clouds”
p.38
I stand tall, aloof
Not caring how far eyes see
The distance is hazy
Nothing to see at all
I persevere in calming
The rocky world inside me
I stand alone
Beyond the clamor of mortal dust
—Li Kuei-hsien, “Mighty Yushan”
p.39
When the frosts come, when the snows come
You hide your passion in your roots and stems
Waiting for next year’s warmth.
In May, you reveal the Spring in your heart
In a dense explosion of flowers
—Chung Ling, “Yushan Azalea”
