A. Self-examination
* Apply pressure and tap with the hands (in accordance with the methods described below, find the position of flatulence, and on the picture mark it clearly with an asterisk).
(1) After you get up in the morning, lie flat, raising the legs to where they are perpendicular to the bed.
(2) Press the right palm against the triangular area in the upper abdomen underneath the ribs and around the end of the sternum. Relaxing the stomach, put your left hand behind your back, and use the pinkie, ring and middle fingers to apply pressure simultaneously on the same positions on both sides of the torso (see Figure 1). Work from the upper abdomen to the lower abdomen, and from the outside in, toward the area next to the navel. Press a circle with your hand all around the abdomen, finding places where there is discomfort or pain (see Figure 2).
(3) If you discover any such places, use the right middle finger to press on the spot, using the left middle finger to hit the third knuckle of right middle finger. Listen, comparing the sound to what's made elsewhere. If it has a more drum-like quality, then there is flatulence here.
(4) Changing hands, do the same pressing and tapping to see what else you can discover, and mark the spots with an asterisk, (making a record as in Figure 3).
If after self-examination, you find no places with flatulence, and you don't check off more than one item on the questionnaire, it means that you are in very good health, and you can continue living as you are. On the other hand, if the self-examination reveals flatulence and you have checked two or more items, then you need to adjust your diet and living habits in order to prevent premature aging and opening up the body to cancer.

C. Methods for preventing colds
Colds can lead to chronic diseases. And if you already have cancer, colds can cause it to spread. And so over the normal course of your life, you should pay attention to preventing colds. Before and after operations or sex, and--if you are a woman--during menstruation, after giving birth, or after having a miscarriage or abortion, it is particularly important to prevent colds from occurring.
Prevention methods
I. After rising in the morning
(1) First remove your pillow and stretch out your two legs. Breathing from the diaphragm, completely exhale three times.
(2) Raise up the arms so that they are perpendicular with the shoulders, bringing the palms together. While breathing in, rub the palms together so that they grow warm.
(3) Hold the palms together so the heat cannot escape.
(4) Cover the nose and the mouth with the hands and then exhale using the diaphragm. When all the heat has been exhaled, repeat steps 2, 3 and 4, doing the exercise a total of 12 times.
(5) After finishing, immediately put on a gauze mask, and start your morning activities.
II. Exercises before going to bed:
To prevent germs that lead to colds from entering the body, it is absolutely essential to "discharge today's fatigue today." Exercising before bed can help dispel the day's fatigue. Afterwards, sleep well in order to welcome a tomorrow full of challenges.
(1) Extend one arm slightly higher than the shoulders, bringing it behind your back and as much as possible looking at the fingers. Leaning the upper body slightly backwards, with the other hand massage from the shoulder blade down. Do this about eight times on each side.
(2) Using the same body position as in (1), massage the neck bone, backbone and the tail bone. Do this about eight times on each side.
(3) Spreading the two feet apart as wide as the shoulders, pull your stomach in and lean the upper body slightly backwards with the thumb on the back and the other four fingers on the front, pressing forcefully with the edge of the hand between the thumb and index finger. Massage from the armpits to the waist about eight times on each side. After rinsing the mouth, prepare a clean gauze mask to use with the next morning's exercises.
D. Finger massage of the ears
Do this massage before eating, bathing, or going to bed. It helps to eliminate tension, both physical and mental. First massage the earlobe (A), then the upper ear (C) and then the edge of the middle ear (B). Press, rub, and pull with the thumb, index finger and middle finger, and separately pull each of these three sections toward the ear hole. Next, use the palm to press tightly against the ear, pressing until you can't hear anything from outside. Rub six times. If there are any sore places, continue until the soreness is gone.
After completely exhaling one time, close the mouth and inhale deeply. After breathing once, immediately take your hands off the ears.
Massage the bone around the base of the ear with the thumb. Massage particularly forcefully behind the ear lobe. If there is soreness, rub until it's gone.
E. Hand massage
This is a massage for stimulating the digestive tract; as long as there's enough time, there's nothing to stop you from doing it often.
Put your left hand in the palm of your right hand, and massage the flesh between the thumb and index finger of the left hand with the thumb of the right hand, while the other four fingers rub the forearm and palm of the left hand. Afterwards, change hands and continue massaging.
F. Correct chewing method
To chew correctly, you must close your lips and extend the philtrum, making extensive use of the molars. (Pay attention that you chew with the teeth on both sides of the mouth.) Use the hands to press on the cheeks, so as to determine how the teeth are moving. With the correct eating method, the saliva thoroughly mixes with the food, thus stimulating the digestive organs, promoting the secretion of gastric juices and bile and helping digestion.
Incorrect chewing can result in sore shoulders and backs, an upset stomach and pains in the cheeks. Chewing thoroughly will strengthen the body and brighten the skin. This can lay down the foundation for a truly healthy beauty.
G. Three cushion sitting method
As shown in the figure, sitting in this way extends the spine and brings in the lower abdomen. People who easily have sore hips, shoulders and backs, or who have trouble breathing, poor digestion, prolapse of the rectum, hemorrhoids, unstable blood pressure, a hunched back, a shrunken neck, a protruding lower abdomen, or a large waist, can all use this sitting method.
H. Three stages of entering a bath
Bathe before dinner, and after taking a short rest, eat. When you begin the three stages of bathing, you can massage yourself while singing songs that you loved when you were young. This will put you in a better mood.
With this way of bathing, you won't sweat excessively, and you can maintain a constant body temperature. The method is described below:
(1) Take five minutes to soak your feet in the hot water. The water should be about five centimeters above the knees. Massage one foot's toes with the other's heel and then switch. You can regularly spray water on the upper body or use a bath towel to keep from getting cold.
(2) Sit down and let the water go three centimeters above the navel for about three minutes. During this time you can massage the eyes, the ears, the hairline and the top of the head. This is excellent for dispelling fatigue.
(3) Removing the bath towel, bring the whole body under the water for about two minutes. At this time massage the feet.
Method for massaging the feet
One can dissipate fatigue in the head by massaging the feet.
Massage the Achilles Tendon. If it's sore, this shows that fatigue is yet to be dispelled, and it must be massaged until it isn't sore any more. When massaging oneself, one shouldn't do a half-hearted job from fear of pain. If you don't massage vigorously, you won't get the intended results. After massaging the tendon until it is no longer sore, rub away the surrounding dirt. Finally, rinse the feet with hot and cold water. This will dispel the feeling of fatigue.
In addition, here is a set of self-examination questions specially for women. Do you or have you
(1) ( ) unstable emotions before your period?
(2) ( ) swollen breasts before the period?
(3) ( ) suffer from dysmenorrhea?
(4) ( ) easily catch cold during your period?
(5) ( ) ever caught cold after giving birth or having a miscarriage (or abortion)?
(6) ( ) ever had a cervical tumor?
If you have checked two or more items, you need to start using the Health Maintenance Method. Besides performing steps A-H, women also must take the following measures during their periods and after giving birth:
I. Health maintenance during menstruation
You cannot overlook selecting proper foods during your period. During the first two days, eat pig's liver for breakfast and lunch but not for dinner. From the third to the seventh day, eat pig's kidneys. After the period, it's best to eat neither.
Most people think that pig's liver helps to increase the blood, but in fact it's just the opposite. Pig's liver reduces the blood. For women whose cervical functions are weak, pig's liver will increase the metabolism, and it can help to rid the body of dirty blood during periods. Pig's kidney can help to contract the pelvis and reduce fatigue.
During your period, you shouldn't wash your hair, and you shouldn't eat raw and cold foods, but you can eat a little sugar. Take care that the stomach, belly and lower abdomen do not get cold.
J. Postpartum health maintenance
If you don't take proper care after giving birth, it is easy to get chronic diseases including cancer. After a normal birth one needs thirty days to recover. After a miscarriage or abortion, you will need 40 days to recover.
(1) For the first three weeks after birth, avoid mental exertion even more than physical exertion.
(2) Don't come into direct contact with cold drafts or cold water.
(3) Don't wash your hair for 30 days after giving birth.
(4) Pay attention to defecation, to prevent hemorrhoids.
