Photography in Taiwan has over a hundred years of history. In the late 19th century, Taiwan already had locally-run photography studios, or sha­shin­kan in Japanese. In the Japanese colonial era, it was very fashionable to go to a sha­shin­kan to have photos taken. It was also something that only people of the upper classes could afford.
